A sign that this fruit combination has become an established feature of our lives is that it has already gone through a number of evolutions. New versions are appearing every day. A different way of enjoying a smoothie

The main difference between the classic version that everyone knows and this one is that the classic is a drink whereas the other version is served in a bowl, eaten with a spoon and has different toppings on it – which, in addition to adding flavour, make it a very attractive dish.

Thickness is key

They may look the same and you’ve probably confused the two more than once, but there are clear differences between smoothies and shakes.

The main and most important difference between these two drinks is in the texture and, therefore, in how they are made.

Shakes are made from fruits and vegetables, of which the juice and pulp are used. Shakes have a thick texture and usually include solid pieces of the recipe ingredients, i.e. fruits or vegetables. When the shake is finished, milk or yogurt can be added for a creamier texture.

When shakes have pieces of fruits or vegetables in them, they have more body and are thicker than smoothies. To make them, more fruits, cereals or yogurts are used, these are liquefied at a low to medium speed, and so the shake needs a longer preparation time.

Whereas, the concept of the smoothie has had a different evolution than that of the shake. Originally it consisted of fruit pulp, mixed with sugar and ice, but in recent years any juice or shake containing a frozen fruit or yogurt, or ice cream, is considered a smoothie. To make a smoothie you need to thoroughly mix the ingredients so that a smooth thick drink is formed. The resulting drink will have a greater volume due to the presence of air when it is being made.

Shakes are usually made using a mixer or blender, whereas smoothies are made using a blender, as the frozen fruit needs to be turned into a liquid. It takes less time to make smoothies because you don’t have to peel and cut the fruit as opposed to shakes.

Both drinks provide fibre, vitamins and minerals, enzymes and anti-oxidants. They are ideal for boosting energy levels, diet control, improving our mood and achieving a more balanced diet. Also, and depending on the ingredients we choose, they can have purifying properties for our body and help us eliminate toxins.

    If you are one of those people who find it hard to get out of bed and face the day, in the new year you should try to sleep better, to do some sport at the end or at the start of the day and to have a glass of vitality every morning.   • Don’t nibble between meals.

It’s important that each layer is as thick and cold as possible so that it does not all mix together. For a more creative touch, you can try cutting some fruit into thin slices and layering them around the glass container you’re using for your layered smoothie. Use colourful fruits with seeds – such as strawberries, kiwis and figs – as these will stand out in the glass. Be sure to combine ranges of colour depending on the type of smoothie you’ve chosen for each layer. If you want it a bit darker, try using sliced blackberries or blueberries.

And what about seeds and supplements? Which are best for your layered smoothie? Chia seeds can work really well because of their dark colour and will stand out in the rainbow of your layered smoothie. But you can also try flax seeds as well as nuts such as walnuts or almonds.

Imagine combining fruits, vegetables, nuts and all the properties of tea. In this post we would like to tell you about this original idea that you might like to give a go when making your smoothies, also known as smooteas. 😉

At LifeSmoothies we always recommend making smoothies by adding our frozen fruit sachet to the blender together with 250 ml of water or apple juice. Apple juice is perfect to give you that neutral touch and to enjoy all the flavour that our fruits have to offer.

But apart from apple juice, other options that can also be great for the smoothie of your choice are other types of fruit juices, coconut water, vegetable drinks or, as we will talk about, tea. There are teas with very distinctive flavours that you may like more or less. We recommend starting with teas with mild flavours or even fruit flavours, regardless of their properties.

A good choice is white tea, also known as beauty tea, as it has a mild, sweet and floral taste. Its colour is also pale and velvety, and it has become very popular among tea lovers. It is made in a way so that it is minimally processed, so we can enjoy all its benefits whilst also tasting delicious. It is also the variety of tea with the highest antioxidant content, so it’s all good for you!

Continuing with mild flavours, green tea is perhaps the next in terms of subtle flavour. This tea is one of the most popular and is perfect if you’re someone who drinks their smoothie in the morning, as green tea is a great substitute for coffee and to start the day in top form. 😊 It is also very rich in antioxidants, just like our fruits, and lowers the level of bad cholesterol.

For the more daring, red tea is a good option if you’re looking for more intense flavours.
