The must-have toppings on your smoothies

alt_toppings on your smoothies
The must-have toppings on your smoothies. Life Smoothies.

If you’re a fan of smoothies, I’m sure you’d like to give them that extra culinary and aesthetic touch. Toppings are just that extra touch your smoothie needs to turn out absolutely perfect. There are as many options and combinations as there are smoothies, so in this article we recommend some that can make your favourite drink a little more fun. Take note.

• Seeds

Here we can choose from many types of seeds, from chia, flax, pumpkin. These seeds help enhance the nutritional value of our smoothies. They have great nutritional properties, for example, they are a great source of fibre and protein. Some, like pumpkin, have anti-inflammatory properties and are a perfect complement to give an even healthier addition to your favourite smoothie.

• Cereals

In this section we have some cereals like quinoa, oats and granola. The first is gluten-free, helps keep cholesterol at bay and has a high amount of fibre. Oats are a source of vitamins A, B, E and D, provide good amounts of magnesium, copper, iron, zinc and small doses of calcium, folic acid and are very rich in manganese. Granola, on the other hand, offers a crunchier and sweeter touch but also many other properties such as fibre, vitamin E, folic acid and antioxidant properties.

alt_toppingssmoothiescereals

• Berries

Some berries such as redcurrants, blueberries, raspberries, are always perfect in your smoothies. They are small, decorative and also have antioxidant and diuretic properties and are rich in vitamin C.

• Grated fruit

Another ideal topping for your smoothies is grated fruit to give it a unique touch. For example, you can use coconut or others like apple or mango, and if you’re really adventurous you can also choose grated vegetables like cucumber or carrot.

• Spices

For example, cinnamon is an ideal topping to enhance the sweet taste of your smoothie. If you have even more of a sweet tooth, you can choose a chocolate and grate it to sprinkle over your smoothie.
With all these toppings there is no excuse to not give your smoothie a unique touch and at the same time enhance its taste with healthy and nutritious ingredients. Choose any of our smoothies and play around with the toppings. You’ll be able to complement your drink perfectly and make it fun. Which will you choose?

Do you know about layered smoothies?

Layered smoothies

They’re fun, full of colour and original. If you like smoothies but also want to try shaking things up a bit to stop them from getting boring, then you’ll love layered smoothies! These smoothies have visible lines so you can see where one flavour ends and the next begins, and are broken into textures and graduated colours.

Colours of layered smoothies

Colours are what underpin this type of smoothie. And presentation is very important. You’ll want to serve it in a glass so that all the layers of colour and flavour can be fully appreciated. You can also add slices of fruit and seeds to give it that special touch.

We recommend that you make each layer of your smoothie separately. You could try using some of our colourful options – such as mixing the strong green of our “green machine” with the red tones of “strawberry split” and “raspberry love”, or the intense pink of our “acai kick”, and then finish it off with a touch of orange with our “mango paradise”.

It’s important that each layer is as thick and cold as possible so that it does not all mix together. For a more creative touch, you can try cutting some fruit into thin slices and layering them around the glass container you’re using for your layered smoothie. Use colourful fruits with seeds – such as strawberries, kiwis and figs – as these will stand out in the glass. Be sure to combine ranges of colour depending on the type of smoothie you’ve chosen for each layer. If you want it a bit darker, try using sliced blackberries or blueberries.

Seeds and supplements

And what about seeds and supplements? Which are best for your layered smoothie? Chia seeds can work really well because of their dark colour and will stand out in the rainbow of your layered smoothie. But you can also try flax seeds as well as nuts such as walnuts or almonds.

To give your layered smoothie an extra touch of colour, try using natural dyes like seaweed powder (spirulina), which can be green or blue. Matcha tea, acai powder and turmeric are other good options.

So, you now know how to make layered smoothies, their properties, and everything you need to do to surprise your guests with something creative and a bit different. People will never again use the word ‘boring’ when talking about your smoothies! Are you ready to throw yourself into the world of layers…?

If you want to know what to combine your smoothies with, here are the best ideas!

5 REASONS TO DRINK SMOOTHIES EVERY DAY

Some trends go as soon as they come. This not only applies to the fashion industry, but also the food industry. We want to reclaim one of Yves Saint Laurent’s most famous quotes: “Fashions fade, style is eternal”. It can be applied to many areas of life, including food. What we mean by this is that smoothies became trendy a while ago, but they have also become a way of life for many, and they are here to stay.

If you thought about trying them but were never totally convinced, here are 5 reasons to drink smoothies every day of the week. Take a look!

1. You’ll be giving your body loads of nutrition

According to the WHO, we should eat 400 grams of fruit and vegetables a day, which is the equivalent of 5 pieces in order to stay healthy. It is very important to take care of yourself and to do so every day. That’s why having a smoothie once a day can be the solution if you’re thinking of taking better care of yourself or continuing to do so, but in a more fun and creative way. In fact, by drinking just one of our smoothies, you’ll be getting half of the recommended foods and a whole host of vitamins, minerals and natural antioxidants.

You may be wondering; how can our smoothies retain all their properties? The answer lies in flash freezing. We make our smoothies from flash frozen IQF unpasteurised fruit, so they retain the taste, goodness, vitamins and minerals of freshly picked fruit.

5 REASONS TO DRINK SMOOTHIES EVERY DAY

We mustn’t forget how a good topping can add to our healthy smoothie. For example, chia seeds contain a high amount of omega 3, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Here you can see a complete list of toppings to help you take care of yourself and give your body more essential nutrients.

2. You’ll stay hydrated all day

As well as the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables, it is very important for adults to drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day. So, if you are someone who finds it hard to drink water, at LifeSmoothies we suggest you include our fruit and vegetable combinations into your hydration plan. This way you can provide your body with plenty of water every day with a delicious smoothie.

3. You’ll feel it day after day

Whether your goal is to lose weight, to improve your immune system or to simply continue to take care of yourself, over time you will notice a big improvement to your body. Because having a smoothie every day will make you a better version of yourself and above all help to prevent illnesses. Also, over time you will develop firmer skin and therefore prevent premature ageing.

4. You’ll save a lot of time in your daily routine

Our pace is a little faster today compared to a few decades ago and we strongly believe that time is precious. That’s why at LifeSmoothies we help make your routine more manageable as our smoothies are quick and easy to prepare.

When it comes to taking care of yourself, any time of the day is good, you just have to find the perfect moment: breakfast, mid-morning, after lunch, a tasty snack or a light dinner… there are many options and all of them are good!

5. Drinking smoothies is great fun!

Eating is a pleasure, and drinking smoothies is a delight! You can try different flavours every day of the week, in the smoothie world there is no such thing as getting bored. Also, as they are frozen, you can enjoy different flavours even if the fruit and vegetables are not in season.

If you have enjoyed reading this, we would like to finish with a little tip: Did you know that smoothies can help you eat that fruit or vegetable you’re not so keen on? You just have to find the perfect combination and add a small amount, the rest of the ingredients can help hide flavours you don’t like. For example, celery has many great properties but what if you don’t like it? Then try our Green Machine smoothie… you’ll be surprised!

Smoothies with iced tea: a delicious, healthy choice

SMOOTHIES WITH ICED TEA

Imagine combining fruits, vegetables, nuts and all the properties of tea. In this post we would like to tell you about this original idea that you might like to give a go when making your smoothies, also known as smooteas. 😉

At LifeSmoothies we always recommend making smoothies by adding our frozen fruit sachet to the blender together with 250 ml of water or apple juice. Apple juice is perfect to give you that neutral touch and to enjoy all the flavour that our fruits have to offer.

But apart from apple juice, other options that can also be great for the smoothie of your choice are other types of fruit juices, coconut water, vegetable drinks or, as we will talk about, tea. Remember that you can add more or less to play with the texture. This way, you can make it thicker or thinner and add the toppings you want without them sinking.

What teas can you try in your smoothies?

There are teas with very distinctive flavours that you may like more or less. We recommend starting with teas with mild flavours or even fruit flavours, regardless of their properties.

A good choice is white tea, also known as beauty tea, as it has a mild, sweet and floral taste. Its colour is also pale and velvety, and it has become very popular among tea lovers. It is made in a way so that it is minimally processed, so we can enjoy all its benefits whilst also tasting delicious. It is also the variety of tea with the highest antioxidant content, so it’s all good for you!

Continuing with mild flavours, green tea is perhaps the next in terms of subtle flavour. This tea is one of the most popular and is perfect if you’re someone who drinks their smoothie in the morning, as green tea is a great substitute for coffee and to start the day in top form. 😊 It is also very rich in antioxidants, just like our fruits, and lowers the level of bad cholesterol.

For the more daring, red tea is a good option if you’re looking for more intense flavours. It is made using a slow fermentation, which is what makes it a very distinctive tea in terms of aroma, colour and taste. This tea is a great diuretic and helps to burn fat, so it’s also a very healthy combination to keep taking care of yourself with smoothies.

And finally, you can also try our smoothies with different fruit teas. There is now a wide variety of options available. For example, if your favourite smoothie is our Mango Paradise, you can try making it with a mango-flavoured tea, which will enhance its main ingredient. There is also a berry tea that would go perfectly with our Raspberry Love and enhance the flavour of the raspberries and blueberries.

We recommend making the tea in the evening, and when it cools, keep it in the fridge until the next day. This way it will be nice and fresh when it is time to drink it.

With this smoothie idea you’ll still get a refreshing drink that we love so much at this time of the year. They will also help you manage your weight as they provide a lot of antioxidants, which, together with the power of the fruit, will make your smoothie the perfect healthy option to continue taking care of yourself this summer.

The best seasonal fruits to go with our smoothies this winter

If you don’t know which fruits are typical during the first few months of the year, continue reading our post and you will discover which fruits suit our LifeSmoothies best. Ready to discover the first pairings of the year?

Fruits rich in vitamin C

Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant to prevent possible colds and flu during the winter months. So, to ensure a healthy winter and protect our immune system, we recommend eating fruits like oranges, papaya and kiwi and incorporating them into your daily diet. Our fruit smoothies will help you on that goal.

We recommend adding papaya to our Açai Kick Smoothie. Its sweet and mild flavour contrasts with the acidity of the blackberries and perfectly complements the mango, another main ingredient of our refreshing drink.

Orange and kiwi, on the other hand, would be the perfect dance partner to our Caribbean Kiss or Strawberry Split. Strawberry – Kiwi or Strawberry – Orange is an absolute winning combination. You won’t be able to resist.

Dried or dehydrated fruit, ideal for winter

Join us this winter with dried fruit! Adding these fruits to our LifeSmoothies will give them new textures and flavours. These foods also help to boost our body’s energy and keep us warm during winter. Dried figs, dates and sultanas are rich in calcium and iron and are the perfect complement to our meals.

Our exotic Tropi Colada Smoothie is perfect with dates, or you can even experiment and pair any dried fruit with our Mango Paradise Smoothie to add that sweet texture to the mango, pineapple and passion fruit combination. Which dried fruit will you try? Remember that this year, one of the resolutions we talked about in the previous post is to get out of our comfort zone.

Pomegranates and blueberries add a splash of colour to our smoothies

There is no better way to top off our smoothies and shakes than with such delicate, tasty and colourful fruits as pomegranates and blueberries. They also provide many nutrients and antioxidant properties necessary for the winter, such as caring for and moisturising our skin.

Don’t forget, too, that these fruits don’t need any filters and will look perfect on your Instagram pictures. Show off a LifeSmoothies snack or breakfast on social media, you don’t know who might like it and maybe you’ll end up sharing toppings and smoothies together! 😉

Breakfast Smoothies with the Best Toppings

Breakfast-Smoothies-with-the-Best-Toppings

For many people summer is synonymous with holidays, having fun, travelling and, above all, having more time for ourselves. This means getting better rest and sleep to wake up feeling great, because summer is also a great time to take care of yourself.

With the non-stop pace of the rest of the year, we are often rushing from one place to another. That is why in summer it is important to make time for ourselves. At  Life Smoothies one of our favourite things to do is enjoying longer breakfasts, this small pleasure that feeds and nourishes us from the inside to start the day in the best way possible.

In this post we give you great breakfast options that will keep you going strong throughout your holidays, and who knows, maybe you can keep these good habits going and enjoy a delicious and healthy breakfast all year round 😉

Shredded coconut for your Caribbean Kiss

We absolutely love coconut in all its variations, for example, natural or dehydrated; and it doesn’t have to be shredded, it can also be sliced. It will add a special touch to your breakfast because it is also a food to take your time and chew over. It is packed full of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It also contains lauric acid, which helps to reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.

Breakfast-Smoothies-with-the-Best-Toppings_BODY1

Chia seeds, perfect for your breakfast with Mango Paradise

These seeds will not only add a contrast of colour to your morning smoothie, but they will also add great texture. This topping is a natural source of fibre, omega-3 fatty acids and contains many other nutrients such as protein, vitamins and minerals. Another great advantage is that it is very filling, which makes it the perfect breakfast topping. Due to its high fibre content, we recommend that you vary how much you eat of it and start with only about 25g, about two tablespoons.

Oats, a super cereal for your Raspberry Love

We love the combo of oats and banana because this cereal is highly beneficial, but it does have a very subtle flavour. If you want the oatmeal to be softer, we recommend leaving it in the fridge overnight with a little vegetable drink, for example, so that it absorbs the liquid and, in turn, releases starches. This will give it a creamier texture and make it a very complete breakfast without losing any of the sweetness of the natural fruit in our Raspberry Love.

Breakfast-Smoothies-with-the-Best-Toppings_BODY2

Caramel, chocolate or even whipped cream for your shakes

Summer is for taking care of ourselves, but also for pampering ourselves and indulging in healthy treats, why not? If you wake up with a sweet tooth one day, why not try our shakes? And enjoying them cold makes them perfect for this time of the year. You can add cream to your Strawberry & White Chocolate and shavings or grated dark chocolate to your Cherry & Chocolate. Another good idea is to add cream and caramel syrup to complete your Banana & Salted Caramel, even coloured sprinkles to make it more fun. Finally, if you’ve taken note of all this you should know that any of these toppings are perfect for our Vanilla shake, it’s super versatile!

Adding toppings to your smoothies or shakes creates endless combinations, so you’ll never get bored with your breakfasts again. On our blog you can find other ideas to complete them: ‘The must-have toppings on your smoothies’ or take a look at our post ‘Toppings for healthy smoothies’.

We want to know your combinations, tell us in the comments!
