Toppings, the perfect addition for a better smoothie

Smoothie toppings can be the perfect addition when making your favourite drink. A good selection and combination of toppings can help to enhance the flavour of your smoothie and allow you to create a more aesthetically appealing, eye-catching and neat presentation. Also, with these toppings you can improve its nutritional value, making the final result much more complete or more precisely adapted to what your body needs.

Choosing the wrong toppings can ruin your smoothie

If we say that toppings can take your smoothie to the next level, then it is also fair to say that a bad choice can ruin everything, including taste, presentation and nutritional properties. There are many common mistakes, such as combining foods that are incompatible in taste and texture; selecting unhealthy toppings, such as processed or overly sugary ones; and even not presenting them properly, smoothies that become an amalgam of fruits, seeds and other additives arranged without any aesthetic or, above all, taste criteria. Remember that Life Smoothies are 100% natural and you will not find colourings or preservatives in them.

As you can see, choosing the right toppings is key. In another post of our blog, we have already given you some ideas on how to complement your smoothies. In this post we share a new compilation of foods that can help you create a different and delicious version of your usual healthy smoothies.

Quinoa

This small seed has big benefits and is consumed as if it were a cereal. It has a pleasant taste and is suitable for celiacs. It also helps you control blood cholesterol levels.

Oats

Without a doubt, one of the richest cereals in proteins, good source of fibre and can help you stay fuller for longer. Let’s not forget its vitamins and minerals. In addition, its properties help to improve your skin, which is why it is often an ingredient in many masks and beauty products.

Chía

A food from a plant which is packed full of fatty acids. This small seed, gelatinous when wet and 100% vegan, helps you protect your heart, reduce cholesterol and enhance weight loss as it helps you stay full. We recommend that before drinking your smoothie, let it rest with the chia seeds. You won’t regret the final result.

Coconut

So versatile and it can give us so much! Coconut water, dehydrated coconut, coconut chunks… How you enjoy it is up to you. But for your smoothie we recommend it shredded or in small slices, as if they were broken. This will give it an exotic touch and make you feel like you’re in the Caribbean. Coconut is high in vitamin E, functions as an antioxidant and has a wide variety of minerals.

Nuts

The variety is endless. We are talking about any nut such as walnuts, pine nuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pistachios, etc. Each one has its own special properties, choose the ones you like the most and that are nutritionally adapted to what you are looking for. Nuts can help lower cholesterol, aid in weight loss and even prevent cognitive decline, among many other benefits.

Granola

Granola, like coconut, is very versatile.  You can eat it by itself, with milk or as a base in many sweet recipes. It will add crunchiness to your smoothie. Including it in your diet can help you feel less hungry and it has the benefits of vitamins E and folic acid. There are granolas of all kinds, you can even make it at home. Once you start, you can’t stop.
